About Royale High:
It would be a “maybe” if there was that option. As it is, the game is fairly fun, but very little has changed since Port Royale 2 & 3, and what has changed was not necessarily for the better. The turn-based combat is better than real-time IMO, because those were huge time-wasters. However, it’s not that well-made. The trading and building of your business is fun like the previous ones, but the trade routes are too automated. They’re “easy to learn easy to master”, or you actually can’t master them because it’s pretty much “select a list of cities and the AI will choose what to buy/sell”. You can do this manually as well, but your control is very limited so you are unable to really create a complex economy. I do like that you can build any refining business in any city, so you can choose the best businesses for each city based on their raw material production and their neighbors. It’s a bit more interesting than have those pre-defined for you. Interesting combat mode, turn based strategy instead of controlling ships yourself. It’s not bad at all but I prefer the old combat system. Graphics in PR4 are much better than any previous version. Still no mod support! The PR series in my opinion is massively chastised due to no mod support. The games have so much potential if mods were a thing. There are a couple more ship variants than there was in PR3. One thing that I would like to have seen is ship modification, such as the ability to kit out your ship with different types of cannons, aesthetics etc. Unfortunately PR4 is just another reboot with better graphics and a different combat system and a few other subtle changes. I give it 3/5 as a returning player to the Port Royale games.
