HL: Alyx is everything I dreamed a VR game would be. The attention do detail is wonderful and makes the experience so much more immersive. Tiny things, like the way liquids swish inside bottles as you hold them in your hands, or the sound a matchbox makes when you shake it. Waited 13 years for a Half Life sequel and boy oh boy was it worth it. So it’s not Episode 3 really, but it’s a return to City 17 in all its glory. My inner child is constantly grinning at being able to experience City 17 like this, to move around within it it and interact with it on a real In the top 5 best games I’ve ever played. It’s an experience unlike any other. It only takes a couple hours in to remember exactly why Valve became the powerhouse they are today: they make some of the best games out there. In a world where VR games are short janky demo-like experiences, Valve come out with a 10+ hour game with top tier level design, fun gameplay, and an interesting and intriguing story. This game is so good it’s worth buying a VR headset just for this game (not that I did, I played it on my roommates Oculus Quest 2.) Sometimes I think about the fact that there are VR platforms out there that don’t have Half Life: Alyx, and to me that’s like having a phone that can’t make phone calls. If you haven’t played Half Life: Alyx, you haven’t played VR.
