About Deepwoken:
Stranded Deep is about as generic a survival game as you can get these days. The overall feel of play-style sways towards simplicity, relying on resource shortage and brutal forward planning in order to hold up the game play mechanic. The world doesn’t really feel like it wants to open up to the player, instead opting for a feeling of helplessness and an inevitable grind towards success. Crafting is, at best, basic and, at its worst, frustrating. Creating a raft (your primary item of choice if you wish to survive) is simple, but also tricky to undertake because of physics collisions. weight distribution problems (placing a single vehicle tyre onto your raft can have the entire construction spinning out of control, or cause it to drown) and space restrictions. It’s meant to be realistic, but the execution of it is glitchy and immersion-breaking, often adding frustration to your task. On top of that. there is very little you are allowed to add to the raft as a vehicle, ending up with your final creation being uninspiring and boring. Want to build a little sleep area that’s enclosed, with maybe something to cook on – Nope! You can construct a shelf system for your crates, a sail, a rudder, a simple stone anchor and, if you’re really feeling fancy, you can build an outboard engine. The latter of which requires a contrived, painfully slow process of farming potatoes (from limited resources) in order to distill them into fuel. It all feels a bit over-the-top., while also being incredibly underwhelming.
